Chapter 3.2 TOOLS for FURNITURE MANUFACTURE

It is barely enough that you know the way around designing aesthetic and ergonomic furniture pieces. Before making design decisions on the parts and features that your furniture will have, a good designer considers the tools that are going to used to help in the efficiency of the entire process of furniture construction. Tooling decision is also one of the aspects that designers should be familiar with. They should have a clear understanding of the importance of the available tools that the carpenters and woodworkers have in order to be able to carry out the designs into real forms. For no matter how expert or master their woodworkrers are, if they do not have the proper tools to be used would make the work impossible or, make the antire process a web of difficult challenges. 

The following are the classification of the most common tools used by carpenters and wodworkers of the furniture industry.

  • Hand Tools
    • These are devices that make possible to work materials when hand alone is not enough.
  • Machine Tools 
    • These are tools that require power supplied by forces other than humans.
    • They make work easier, quicker and are more accurate than hand tools but do not altogether replace them.
